welcome to back to school night when is Darrell Jackson the assistant principal The Odyssey STEM Academy and speaking also on behalf of our principal Alicia magatha we want to thank you for coming out to support your Scholars growth in learning tonight we want to take just a moment to talk about the important ways that Odyssey continues to prepare Scholars for life and career will look at our foundation Focus or method of evaluating scholar grow I also want to spend some time talking about the importance of attendance and reviewing some of the powerful ways Odyssey supports color learning social-emotional development and College and Career Success but before we get into all our support here's the amazing team that I have the privilege of working with it's my absolute pleasure to work alongside our principal Alicia mcgough now our office staff Rosa Aguayo Sandra Leon and Cynthia Chavez our support staff consists of Ashley chose Mark Julio Martinez Daniel Leyva Jeremy Cisneros and Desiree. For 9th grade we have went Chanel Jacobson Nelly Cabrera Antonio Molina Matthias Lea and Damian consepcion pretend grade Anthony Myers Sarah Morgan Chelsea Macfadyen Sarah Polley don't be sorry and Rich English for 11th grade Mike Clark Mary and Leon Nicole bottomley Pedro Navarro Natalie Robles an important part of our team not shown and helica Garcia for 12th grade Caroline Martinez Flor Perez Desiree Martinez and Sammy Sammy science Odyssey are foundational Focus develops color character and economic growth three areas strong heart strong mind and strong will Scholars to demonstrate strong heart or those individuals who acknowledge each other's needs ideas and contributions they work towards fostering positive relationships within our community and the community around them demonstrating strong mind are those Scholars who are deeply engaged in their learning they're curious and enthusiastic in their pursuit of knowledge and finally Scholars with strong will or those committed to their goals they make sacrifices in create plans to overcome obstacles they view failure or not as an end but essential to learning assessment curiodyssey our Scholars growth is not measured in points in percentages and Scholars work is scored using a progressive scale cpma is used by advisers to communicate the current level of scholar knowledge and skill is for emerging Scholars at this level are just beginning to show understanding and skill is her practicing Scholars at this level begin showing their understanding but more work is needed and is for meeting this is when your Scholars ability and understanding meets the basic requirements A is for advanced for Scholars at this level they're demonstrating evidence of their understanding and skill beyond their advisers expectation it's uncommon for a scholar to gain full understanding of a subject area at the beginning of the year especially since this may be the first time that they may have seen or have been exposed to the new topic or skill Scholars learning an e or emerging and or practicing at the beginning of the year is expected of even the most ambitious colors however we should expect scholar scores to show improvement over time mistakes can happen like the practice that they received before December for the overall story of improvement show that this color will earn an advanced on this competency by the end of the year here's a screenshot of what scores look like four competencies in your Scholars progress screen on the altitude altitude is Odysseys learning management system the scores are color coded so that you can see at a glance how they're doing and where they need to improve all these scores together would be considered by the advisor as a body of evidence that advisers used to determine Milestone scores at the end of each trimester at Odyssey were convinced drawing a strong heart mind and will happens by being on campus every day to reinforce this believe a positive supports are put in place for example we have weekly and monthly recognitions a perfect attendance and run a tennis camp through our advisory classes for Scholars who struggle with attendance phone calls are made daily for continued to truancy a letter is made her mailed home on the third sixth ninth and twelfth day of an unexcused absence after 9 unexcused absences parents and Scholars are required to attend group meeting to review district attendance policies and protocols regular attendance supports his weekly groups check-ins and or trackers are made available for Scholars with nine or more unexcused absences we hope absences don't continue but if they continue past 12 unexcused full days the sky was replaced on a sart contract we hope to avoid a sart contract by providing the mentioned supports to find out what are unexcused and excused reasons for absences as provided by State of California you can go to our website or contact our office communication this is just applied for parents where parents where's the district-wide communication app that keeps parents in the middle of the ants and important notifications it also allows you to easily communicate with our attendance office if you need to excuse an absence if you don't already have it please download parentsquare app from the app store on your and imma see we have a number of structures in place to support scholar growth and learning academic supports include office hours for one-on-one time with advisors check with your advisor for the day one office hours are available by that transportation is also available for those attending office hours in addition to academic support we have mental health in college readiness supports to develop emotional growth and that prepares colors for future College and Career accessing mental health supports is Made Easy through for Pathways a scholar can talk to an advisor they can scan a QR code they can come to our Student Center which houses are mental health Team or parent can complete a referral through the Odyssey website supports for college readiness include a curriculum in Odyssey where all a through G requirements are met dual enrollment is encouraged in AP classes are provided to prepare Scholars for their post-secondary transition as you can see by the supports listed on this slide comprehensive counseling program for a Scholars lrc we prepare Scholars for for for professional and or occupational Fields through a number of activities some of the activities include Mentor fares internships in on-campus career development Title One Title One is the largest federal assistance program for our nation's schools the tie the goal of title is a higher quality of education for every child the program serves millions of children in both Elementary and secondary schools each year all schools in Paramount Unified School District are Title 1 schools the federal government provides fund funds to state to States based on the census and actual poverty data for each year each year for title one week for new Department of Education sends money to local school districts for local school districts identify schools based on free and reduced lunch data and provides Title 1 funds for them school as a School site Council composed of parents teachers and other staff that work at the school and and also includes the principal the School site Council serves as the rules advisory committee I need assessment is completed free school and goals are developed for each school year goals and programs within budgeted Title 1 funds and measurement criterias are established and Outline by the school plan for a student achievement bssc or School site Council approves the school plan for student achievement at Odyssey Scholars graduate with skills and experiences ready to pursue and succeed in the direction of their choice now here's one way the parents can get involved in Odyssey stem
