you're in Odyssey we actually use a different platform a different website called altitude learning cuz if it's the way that we approach student scores and at the end of the school year student rate if you haven't gotten access to altitude yet on the best way to do that is all we received an email that might be kind of buried in your inboxes if you are looking your inboxes or a email from support at Learning Center. Org that was how you were originally sent information of how to sign up and get into the parent side of altitude if you do locate this email there's a link that says altitude learning platform you're going to want to click that link I know take you a screen where you can either sign up or login the the means they were talking about tonight or progress report since we just finished our first trimester so once you are in Alpha 2 do you want to be looking in the Stream section or the progress report and there's a purple box that you should see how you're going to click on we will also be nailing home sports for families you are we do rent instead of going out if you have problems getting into altitude such as maybe you forgot your password or you need to sign up for the first time click the forgot password reset Link in and I will help you get back into the program whether it's from a computer or from a smartphone here at out here our approach the grades a little bit different than even with experience in high school and follow most of us did as well we were more familiar with a b c d and f but honesty we approached scoring a little bit differently you might have heard words such as emerging and previous parent universities or maybe from talking with your Scholars at home when is Skyler and them what that really means is their kind of still making a lot of mistakes and maybe their understanding of a concept is a little bit low as they start to learn more and develop their understanding do starts call the practicing practicing means that they're making less than steaks and they're starting to have partial understanding there really are what the word is they are practicing their content eventually and you didn't work more on task to get more opportunities to show their skills and their abilities they'll eventually earning meeting dinner the meeting they might be making minor takes up a really are showing understanding at this point and they are finally really achieving the expectation of their teachers it is possible to earn in advance on their works at Odyssey would mean is the work that they're showing is kind of going beyond the expectations in the classroom this happens when students usually off into work that isn't necessarily require but it pushes them Beyond just the bare minimum now a lot of parents misunderstand that students are going to get the opportunity to earn meeting dances right beginning of school year like a student might get an A on their first test this isn't quite true when you first learn something in the real world you're not good at it and that's okay so you might emerging the first time you try something new this is true for your students work here. A dentist that do the work a little bit more they try new assignments they do a little bit better and over time it might go up and down until they start to earn meetings and they really now showing understanding of a math concept or of analyzing and summarizing in their English or maybe running experiments in their science classes I'm so over the course of the school year from September to June you're going to see the school board increase over time and sometimes there might be a bit of a jet maybe that new opportunity was a bit difficult and so the score went down but a scholar here Odyssey could decide to go back to that piece of evidence back to Dallas revise it with the feedback that their teachers have given them and replace that score with a better score Adventure by the end of the school year we hope that stars are earning Advanced but all Scholars have I'm meeting in order to pass their classes so do you want to see how your your child is doing. Odyssey it's really important that you get into once you login at the top of the screen you'll see all these options and clicking on progress has been they give you the biggest picture of how they're doing an all of their bus and you'll see scores that look like it's over here on the right these big three big ones which are examples from a math class is it called milestones and underneath each Milestone are the skills that your stew are going to learn and show throughout the school year this Milestone with algebra has five different competencies that the Oregon and the colors you see right here which are a mix of practicing and meetings is where your student should be at this point in the school year they should have a mix of these two scores practice things and and meetings we should be concerned if we noticed that our children have a lot of emerging that means that there's something that might need to be addressed either the work that they do at home or maybe the work they're doing okay at this point I'm going to go ahead and change my screen so that I can kind of show you what this looks like from the student perspective give me one moment to bring that up if you have any questions please let me know in the chat you can type in a question if you have something you want to be asked by the way one moment sorry for not having this ready you know I like it I think one of the things that attracted me to Odyssey from the very beginning was just this this whole idea about competency-based grading in the kids having the ability to have a r e taken into work deeper and further into their compliments he's in the Masters of the concepts throughout the entire year and so I appreciate you spotlighting this no problem okay so when you go into altitude this is what altitude looks like from your student's perspective and when you log in with your account you would also seek them similar things the place where you can find a progress report is right here cooking on stream and you'll see this like I talked about earlier there's a big August report button right here Spin City one place to on this is where you're going to click on to see their progress reports here's what a progress report looks like party supports look like this you'll see at the top some explanation about where at in the school year also what kind of Spurs they should be earning as you scroll down or we will see a little bit of an explanation about our scores in case you need a a review and you want to keep going until you see the screen right this is the part of the project where you need to pay close attention to us that in this example the student has earned a mix of practicing and emerging so this would be something that talk to you students about why are they earning an emerging at this point in the school year and what can they do about it to prove it as you scroll down to the next section you noticed that I'm doing a little bit better in this I'm called quantitative reasoning which is the math section of their other grade the students earning a solid pack of things which is where we hope for them to be at this point in the school year you can keep going down and you can be down here in Healthy Living which is TE the scholars already learning meetings at the end of the progress report is a letter. The teachers have written to that student let you know how they're doing let me know something to think about as well as next steps next steps that will help them think about what they should work on next to improve their Sports you can also see the scores at any time in the school year by logging into altitude and clicking on that progress but then you'll be able to see you here on the left hand side all of the scores if you open up each of these will be able to see all the scores for every class yeah this is the best way to understand how your student is doing I remember like a like I mentioned before it's kind of something that happens over time for a lot of dollars and it's okay if at first there were needing a merging and practicing later in the school year they're starting to earn more meetings and advances but it's important that any parent who has students were earning or merging right now really start to talk to them about what they can do to improve their work school but also lastly I just want to let you guys know that there are a lot of resources for your students to support them campus we do have office hours and so most of 10th grade has office hours on Monday and Tuesday 9th grade has office hours Monday through Thursday 11th May has office hours on Monday Tuesday Wednesday and 12th grade has office hours on Tuesday and Thursday and then and an rrsp teachers also available to support students on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well this is from 3:50 right after school to about 3 until 4:30 that's when office hours are you reeling for Scholars to come either answer questions just go over feedback maybe Reaper an assessment like a test or quiz or just maybe just to show up and practice something they know they've been struggling on this can be one of the biggest helps for Scholars if they can stay after school and work with their teachers lastly there are Accounting Office is also always available to support Scholars on Daniel who's here to help translating is our academic counselor and Ashley is our school social worker I'm help social emotional needs at this point I'm going to go ahead and give it over to Daniel for some translations and questions thanks again Mike what does oficina para Todos Santos Escuela de Lune is Aquarius in Barcelona's what is it in Los Alamos the Yankee como estas AMC on Clark you sticky are you also going to go to the Square Seattle Ashley Pokemon locations in Endless TNT regarding up to the Cambrian you had a question about having to account it doesn't show me anything on the top like that it doesn't like the example that you gave a like the course in that except it doesn't show me anything like that okay so I was showing you the student fight of it so that you can I actually find that a lot the parent like horses the student to like go to the playlist and show them what are you working okay what was what is overdue and What needs to get done and making them go into their Progress Street and showing you their stores and explain to you why do you have to work what can I do to make this emerging do or maybe like you see here for the math scores you know you can have the students okay why does this affect the thing and they can say well hoping next meeting as well so you can have a rotational dialog whenever there's something that is maybe a little low on space heater you can have them tell you what I'll tell you where that came from and show me the progress the parents don't have access to that I think I'm at least a progress and stream if I see stuff from so I do see that I just didn't see you like was trying to check his progress thank you yeah that's what that's what I find is the best and that's what we do during back to school night if you have the kids open up their progress being with their parents more than you can say they were halfway through the school year and you have one meeting Finance you can read you to improve that and they said I don't know then they need to come to office hours to get help okay absolutely thank you I appreciate that bad luck irregular maestro elephant singing in Progreso this is Placido Cemetery has a capital, Los colores and if I could crack the condo has guest practicando last I seen Toca Boca is the luckiest add an event current assistant and then you had a quality Care. oficina Coronavirus I don't see any other questions in the Daniel do you want me to go back to so that you can go over in Spanish no up blitzes go back to the emergency questions stupid dropping I'm going to switch into Spanish adjust a the I think it's 57 yeah that yes honey it's nothing serious when you relax. That's all what I can show you is what this scale overtime looks like on altitude whether you log into altitude or you have your student do that on the progress screen you can eat I need math you can actually see that timeline on altitude as well so let's look at into this so you can see student getting different scores over time now this is just September to November not allowed to school year has happened but over time more and more scores are going to pop up or this still doing and I'm doing which is a math skill and so you'll see the progression in a student can click on these letters and so can you in order to find out why did they get these scores and where they come from Plato and dispatching my here and we can see that this came from a group a sign that a group of assessment they did this came from a basically a group test they did in math class three or four students and together those students earned a practicing you can scroll back up the top and click on this meeting and we see this came from another assignment if you want more information on the assignment you can cook funniest cards and it takes you to the 8th to the actual work that the student did instructions as well as any documents that may be the students work done and the score to be down here as well this particular assignment it may had a meeting that one score I just showed you but there were one two three four five other skills that they showed on this test on this assignment and some of them were meeting and some of them are practicing is that that kind of cover some of your questions but definitely does I think the what are the big takeaways I think four families that I've made with looking at the the stages of development is it in message so closely what we do in real life I'm sewing in initially learning something in you know in any area of feel that we work in I don't know if I told you Daniel I hope I told you Michael but my last my last career actually in and I spent almost as much time in that careers that didn't this one was dinging like Christians and there is there is this definite merging. Where I'm learning how to put in an outlet box so I'm learning how to measure and I'm learning how to do all the things that eventually I need to be able to master and then after I practice it a few hundred or a thousand times and a few different houses then finally I may be needing it my supervisor is able to let me go and install my own electrical boxes but then as I as they grow in that area I become more advanced and start being able to supervise others doing the same thing and teach others in either even meet with our crapsey architecture draftsman to whoever it is in you ear eat this level of advancement or you're actually able to to reapply in different areas of the field. That's why Mike I don't know that's why this model is so powerful to me because I see it played out in most of the real life scenarios that I know that our students are going to be faced with you Savvy the last thing I might want to show you if you make your student go to altitude show you their playlist if you see this do 74 days ago that means this is a missing assignment you can get a list of missing assignments to students should be able to do this for you they should be able to click over here on do soon and show you only the cards that are late or they're going to be you really really soon so you're there late or they're at their due date is really coming up so this is a good way of getting a snapshot of like what work the student might either be about or just maybe I has they they forgotten about it but they really need to go back and start working on them again again that's the that's it have your student log on to altitude so you there playlist like I'm showing you much of the same information as the student but having you didn't go over and explain where they're at what they're working on what they need to like what they need to go back and revise is more powerful then just ask his parents see what they are and then telling them you know it's got good enough for it is good enough for you have missing assignments if you have them be transparent and honest with you and explain why hey there earning the scores are earning that's a much more stronger to learning experience for your for your children in just trying to manage it on our own State was in that crater in that particular project her or material that they completed and then working together to find a way to how do we how do we prove revisions are available so that's the beauty of our seat revisions are available resubmissions are a definite option not something that is firm and said there's still room to to grow into its raise the level so just to friendly reminder to parents I have another question to do the retake of any assignment does it matter how old they are or they could just go back to the beginning of the school year or if they have to limit everything at Odyssey is renewable we put no restrictions on at all they can redo the exhibition they can retake us they can rewrite an essay everything at Odyssey we believe is a learning and therefore everything has the option to be revised that's why we use altitude is only what altitude can your can are the teachers not just score of the work but really have ways of getting feedback to the students on immense written up underneath Ur scores a lot of ways we communicate with the student because it's a speed back that's going to give them the tools to make their work better and do everything here they can read and yes there sometimes are some assignments that maybe a little bit more important than others but that's a conversation to kind of have with your children is a some like of which of your assignment is most important right now which of your assignments you do you do you really have to redo in order to earn a meeting they should know I'm in if they don't it's okay but they need to come
